For this unit of contextual studies, we have to look at story telling within digital games and how they differ from other media, such as those of books or films.
By looking at these we can then look into how they create a coherent world using all the possible advantages of games, such as the narrative, characters, world, music. Which draw the player into the world, if a world is not coherent ,or structured correctly it would not bring a player into the world and would possibly stop the player engaging with the game.
For example, a flying super car in a world that is meant to be low tech like a medieval setting. It just wouldn’t work and put the player of the game.
These coherent worlds can also be brought across from the Alternative Reality (AR) games that are created, using the tools of the web, viral ads etc to create a ‘game world’ in the actually reality world.
A good example of this was the huge Viral Campaign that was launched for the run up to the Batman film ‘ The Dark Knight’
